Children’s Eye Exams
We make visiting the Opticians fun and enjoyable for all the family, including the kids!
At Monoptics we understand that children can be nervous when having their eyes tested. It is our duty to make sure that this is not the case and whenever possible to make sure it is a fun experience. They may not always know that there is a problem with their vision and so a simple examination can spot these problems early on. It may be that their school work is suffering because of eye problems and it could be solved relatively easily with a simple visit to MONOPTICS.
There is special equipment and techniques for testing children with colours and shapes, which means they do not have to be at reading age. Uniquely to Monoptics, we recommend eye tests from the age of 3 months onwards, in order to detect unusual eye conditions.
The more information a patient gives us the better service we can provide. However, if a patient is a young child or suffers from particular cognitive problems, we have specialised equipment that can identify problems without the need for patient feedback. These include procedures such as automated tonometry and refracting in addition to fundus photography. If there is a history of Glaucoma in the family it is very important that this is checked out and kept under observation. We can do this through various techniques.
“We recognise how important your children are to you and we take our responsibility equally seriously.”
Shine Gonzalvez – Optometrist
Sometimes a child´s vision can be improved simply by doing regular eye exercises and there may be no need for glasses. If they do need glasses they can be trendy and so becomes a part of their wardrobe. Times have definitely changed.
Our optometrist gained considerable experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital and is well placed to advise parents concerning their children’s eye health. A regular eye examination for children is free under the age of 19 and in full time education. This does not necessarily mean that your child will need glasses but routine eye examinations are essential in order to pick up any potential problems.
